State awards grant for materials at H-F High library

Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School has been awarded a $4,999 state grant for the purchase of books at a variety of Lexile levels to support differentiated instruction.
Lexile is a scientific approach to measuring both reading ability and the text demands of reading material.
H-F librarians Jane Harper and Alicia Rodriguez, assisted by Teresa Bagatella, worked on the grant application. The money will be available in May.

Homewood resident awarded national scholarship for library degree

Darnetta Bolton's studies in library science recently got a big boost. She is one of 61 candidates for the master’s degree in library and information science in the nation to be awarded the Spectrum Scholarship. 

Juveniles reported fighting at Flossmoor library

At least five juveniles were involved in a fight at the Flossmoor Public Library last Wednesday, April 8. Police officers were told that fighting took place both inside the library and in its parking lot, Deputy Police Chief Tod Kamleiter said Tuesday.

Officers were called to the library at 5:50 p.m. following a report to police that a fight was in progress, Kamleiter said. They arrived a short time later and were told that the juvenile suspects were running west from the library.
