Flossmoor Officers Show Off Fuzzy Faces at National Night Out

For the past three months, 10 Flossmoor police officers grew out their facial hair — normally a no-no — to raise money for Illinois Special Olympics, culminating in a “best beard” contest at National Night Out on Aug. 7.

There was a heavy police presence at Homewood’s Irwin Park Tuesday evening. 

There was also a heavy kid presence, and when the two groups met on the field armed with water balloons, there was also a lot of laughter. 

The occasion was the annual National Night Out event hosted by the Homewood Police Department as an opportunity for residents to meet and mingle with officers under relaxed and social conditions.

Police departments in Homewood and Flossmoor are hosting National Night Out events Aug. 7 in settings where officers can interact with residents and explain how local law enforcement is working to keep our communities safe. National Night Out has been called “a party with an important purpose,” according to Homewood Events Manager Allisa Opyd.

National Night Out provides festive occasion for neighborliness

National Night Out in Homewood on Tuesday a bigger crowd and new features in addition to old favorites, and it gave residents a chance to mingle with local law enforcement officers. 

Homewood police reach out to the community

Homewood police offers greeted residents Saturday in front of Village Hall to provided information about best practices for traffic stops. The police department will also host National Night Out from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Irwin Park, an opportunity for residents to get to know police officers.
