Nicor Gas updating meters for automatic readouts

Contractors for Nicor Gas are working in the Homewood-Flossmoor area to attach a new piece of equipment to meters that will allow for automatic readouts.
 
“As part of meter modernization deployment, Nicor Gas will be installing small, two-way communication devices on existing natural gas meters throughout these communities,” said Pat Eaves-Heard, regional manager for community affairs at Nicor Gas.

Nicor continues gas line replacement program in Flossmoor

For the past two months, Nicor Gas trucks and equipment have been a common sight in Flossmoor as crews work to modernize aging underground infrastructure.

Joe DelReal, Nicor’s manager of community relations and economic development, said Thursday the project will take another six weeks to complete. Once work is finished, he said, Nicor will restore areas where lawns and paving have been affected by the project.

Gas leak closes streets in downtown Homewood on Friday

Traffic was blocked along two downtown Homewood streets for about four hours Friday, May 20, while Nicor Gas workers fixed a gas main leak.
