SMART Lab

D153 SMART lab drawing teachers from across the country

The two-year-old SMART lab at James Hart School in Homewood has given District 153 teachers Katie Nigro and Cheri Pesina an opportunity to show off the lab to teachers from across the United States.

Hands-on learning abounds in District 153 Smart Lab

It’s the first period of the day and the room is full of seventh graders who pair up around the computers.  Each student is creating, writing or exploring using Homewood District 153’s Smart Lab equipment.

“They’re completely engaged. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before,” said teacher Katie Nigro, science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) lab facilitator.

Community invited to Tuesday’s ribbon cutting for SMART Lab

Homewood District 153 invites the community to a 6 p.m. ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 18, that will officially open the SMART Lab at James Hart School, 18220 Morgan Ave.

Parents and residents will get a first-hand look between 6 and 7 p.m. at how students are using the lab to enhance learning in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields, as well as the creative and media arts (CMA).
