Toys, donations needed for Respond Now Holiday Giveaway

During this season of giving, Respond Now is seeking unwrapped new toys for boys and girls from newborn to age 14 for its Holiday Giveaway event on Dec. 12 and 13.

The agency is in need of games, books, craft items, sports equipment and gift cards in $20 amounts. While clothes and food are not needed specifically for this drive, Respond Now always accepts food donations for general use and to give their clients a boost for the holiday.

Donations will benefit local organizations on #GivingTuesday

Local non-profit organizations are taking part in #GivingTuesday, a global day of sharing, on Tuesday, Nov. 27. Founded in New York City in 2012, #GivingTuesday offers people the chance to help others by supporting causes important to them. It is estimated that over the past five years $300 million has been raised online to benefit organizations large and small.

In the Homewood-Flossmoor area, several organizations will be participating.

Runners, walkers and neighbors invited to Respond Now's 5K on Sept. 22

Spaces are still available for Respond Now's annual 5K Walk/Run for Hunger on Sept. 22 at Bicentennial Park in Olympia Fields.

Sue Perkins of Flossmoor, a longtime board member at the social service agency, called the annual event an easy and fun way for community members, advocates and supporters old and new to help combat poverty in their neighborhoods.
