H-F community pitches in to help local domestic violence agency after state funding dries up

The state might be failing to provide support for local domestic violence agency South Suburban Family Shelter (SSFS), but the Homewood-Flossmoor community is working to fill the funding gap. On Thursday, March 23, Loulou Belle shop in downtown Homewood hosted a fundraising event for SSFS, and on Saturday, March 25, Action for a Better Tomorrow (ABT) held a dinner party in Flossmoor to raise money for the agency.

GSU community forum on state budget set for Friday

Governors State University will host a community forum from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 26, focusing on how the state’s budget problems will affect the Chicago Southland. 

The free event is open to the public. It will include a panel discussion with two sub-themes: challenges of the state budget and the impact the budget will have on the Chicago Southland.

Sen. Hutchinson to host town hall meeting about state budget

State Sen. Toi Hutchinson, D-Chicago Heights, will host a town hall meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 2, to provide an update on the spring legislative session and to discuss budget issues facing the state.
