Bus service working better this year in District 161

Bus service in Flossmoor District 161 has shown improvements from the 2017-18 school year when issues like numerous route changes at Western Avenue Elementary and late buses sparked complaints from parents.
 
Superintendent Dana Smith told the school board Oct. 29, that Paige Bus Enterprises has made changes in its operations that led to a “dramatic decrease in complaints.”
 

Metra adjusts service for holiday travel

Metra will modify train schedules on several days in the coming weeks to account for the holiday season. 

In addition, special $8 holiday passes will be available for unlimited travel Dec. 23 to 25 and Dec. 30 to Jan. 1, and up to three kids 11 and under will be able to ride free with each adult from Dec. 16 to Jan. 1.

A representative of the school bus company serving Flossmoor School District 161 was on hand at Monday’s Board of Education meeting to respond to parents’ complaints even though school district and bus company officials acknowledged that things are running smoothly as the school year entered its third week. 
 

Bus route changes spark criticism to District 161 board

As the school year opened in Flossmoor School District 161, parents came forward with complaints about bus service.
 
At Monday’s committee of the whole meeting, school board members heard from three parents who were critical of bus service during the first week of school.
 
Most of the attention was on Bus 36 serving Western Avenue School. The criticisms were about numerous route changes, with one parent saying, “these issues are not new.”
