Flossmoor looks at financial challenges ahead with five-year projection

Flossmoor is going to have to find a way to deal with some financial challenges in the coming years, and the idea of enacting a home rule tax to solve them is a nonstarter for the current Village Board.

Those were the key discussion points Tuesday, Jan. 19, during a rescheduled regular meeting of the Flossmoor Village Board, as it outline a five-year financial projection for fiscal years 2021-2026.

Flossmoor village hall to reopen Thursday

Flossmoor officials announced Wednesday afternoon that village hall and public works offices will reopen to the public on Thursday, Jan. 21. 

Flossmoor public facilities have been closed because of state-imposed virus mitigation restrictions. The suburban Chicago region has been in Tier 3 mitigations since November. 

State health officials announced on Monday that the region would move to the less restrictive Tier 2 level. 

Flossmoor scores MWRD grant; newcomers join village commissions

Flossmoor is in line to get a major monetary boost to its water infrastructure improvement program for Hagen Lane and Douglas Avenue.

At a rescheduled village board meeting Sept. 8, Mayor Paul Braun announced that the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago provided officials notice that Flossmoor is to receive a grant. Details on the final project were not available.

Flossmoor plan seeks more diverse suppliers

The Village of Flossmoor is looking to do business with minority-owned firms and other diverse companies.

Since late last year, Flossmoor has been attempting to build a more diverse supply chain for the numerous goods and services that the village requires in areas ranging from public works construction projects to tech support to office supplies and much more. 

Flossmoor trustees to discuss possible infrastructure bond referendum

The Flossmoor Board of Trustees will discuss the possibility of placing a bond referendum on the November ballot to raise money for infrastructure projects, including street repair and stormwater drainage.

Village staff members have presented several options for the board to consider, depending on how those projects are prioritized. 

Drive-in movie helps fill gap left by Independence Day event cancellations

The COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of Fourth of July festivities, including the Homewood parade and the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District's Family Fun Fest, but the two agencies, in collaboration with the village of Flossmoor and Homewood-Flossmoor High School, filled the gap with the "Quarantine Cinema" drive-in movie.
