March 14, 2020 - 21:36

Flossmoor kicked off its annual budget process with a note of optimism following a year that brought mostly positive news about the village’s fiscal well-being.

That good news, however, was tempered by nagging concerns about the best way to make municipal ends meet when revenues are stagnant and the community’s overall equalized assessed valuation (EAV) still has not fully recovered from the 2008 recession.

Flossmoor currently has 176 vacant, foreclosed and pre-foreclosed properties out of about 4,000 houses in the community.

Ready for the Gem

August 25, 2019 - 14:58

Cyclists who made the journey July 13 along the Hidden Gem Half Marathon route noted some streets were crumbly.

Flossmoor Public Works tackled the problem, and by Friday, Aug. 16, finished patching work on the race route in preparation for the Sept. 7 event.

Public Works Director John Brunke said the patching work would continue on other streets, but the race route had gotten priority.
