Police look for three suspects after attempted carjacking

A Flossmoor resident was assaulted and robbed during an attempted carjacking at his home on Thursday, police said. The incident was reported at about 5:30 p.m. on May 30 in the 1400 block of Kinross Street, Flossmoor police said in an email alert to the community.

Two District 161 staff members named assistant principals at Parker

Flossmoor School District 161 this week announced the appointment of two new assistant principals at Parker Junior High School. Tara Peacock and Michelle Wisniewski will join incoming principal Amabel Crawford as top administrators at Parker.


Homewood explores TIF incentive for Bogart’s site redevelopment

Officials hope a new TIF district will incentivize redevelopment of the former Bogart’s restaurant at 18225 Dixie Highway in Homewood. Kane, McKenna and Associates, a financial services firm, began helping the village work toward establishing a new TIF district along Dixie Highway and Miller Court in August of 2018.

Viking Choir sings commissioned piece to departing director

The Viking Choir at Homewood-Flossmoor High School gave their beloved choir director Mike Rugen a final send-off on May 23, performing a piece specially written for him. At the end of the program, the students surprised him with “You Will Never Know,” written for his retirement. 

Live United helps H-F High end year on positive note

After a turbulent month of dealing with a racial incident triggered by four students wearing blackface, a group of students organized Live United, a campaign designed to bring students together. 

Sun shines on Homewood Memorial Day ceremonies

Before torrential rains tore through the area, the skies were mostly sunny for Homewood’s annual Memorial Day ceremony. The parade stepped at off at 10:30 a.m. from near Village Hall south down Dixie Highway, led by an honor guard. Following that, active soldiers drove and walked by three sand-colored military Humvees.



Busy Homewood Farmers Market basks in surprise sunshine

The Homewood Farmers Market got off to a great start on Saturday, according to Market Manager Kate Duff. 

At 8 a.m. the vendors were ready, and customers came in droves.

Duff said she couldn't even get a good attendance count.

"It was too full to count," she said. "I'm pretty sure this was our busiest start ever."

TIF to help Bogart's redevelopment on Homewood board agenda

Homewood trustees will have an opportunity Tuesday to continue the process of creating a small tax increment financing district (TIF) downtown that is expected aid the redevelopment of the former Bogart's Charhouse site at 18225 Dixie Highway.
