Forget your 20th century ideas about foods class. In the 21st century, the Homewood-Flossmoor High School program is now call culinary arts and the education and training can lead students to great careers in the food industry.

Chocolate tart wins Homewood Chocolate Fest Bake-off

Four entries were winners of the Homewood Chocolate Fest Bake-off, but in a sense, everyone was a winner who likes good chocolate and a fun family event. 

On the agenda: Homewood trustees to consider restoring the amusement tax rate and three business measures

At the regular meeting of Homewood trustees Tuesday, Feb. 24, the board will consider returning the village amusement tax to its original rate and will vote on a special use permit for a foot massage service on Dixie Highway.

Rauner budget plan would trim Flossmoor revenues by $468,000

Gov. Bruce Rauner’s proposed state budget for the upcoming fiscal year would cut Flossmoor’s municipal revenues by $468,000.

St. Joe’s Lenten Fish Fry opens Friday

The Athletic Association at the Parish of St. Joseph in Homewood is opening its traditional Lenten Fish Fry on Friday, Feb. 20, in the school gym, 17951 Dixie Highway.  Dinners are served from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Dinner includes all-you-can-eat Alaskan Pollack fish, curly fries, coleslaw, roll and dessert. Or try the catfish nugget dinner or eight-piece shrimp dinner served with coleslaw and dessert.

H-F football team proved themselves as outstanding ambassadors

Homewood-Flossmoor High School board members lauded the football team Tuesday for their outstanding effort, grades and behavior, as well as their football prowess this past season.

H-F administration will check fieldhouse security measures

Homewood-Flossmoor High School administrators promised they will review security measures in the new fieldhouse after a student’s locker was broken into twice in one week.

Flossmoor Village Board takes steps in case medical cannabis dispensary seeks to locate in Flossmoor

It is unlikely that there will be a request to open a dispensary for medical cannabis in Flossmoor anytime soon.

Still, Flossmoor Village Board members took steps Monday to prepare for the day that someone may want to start selling medical marijuana in town. Currently, however, there are no locations in Flossmoor that meet the state’s restrictions on where cannabis dispensaries can be opened.
