Attorney asks for release of youth accused in Homewood attempted carjacking

A Cook County Juvenile Court judge is expected to rule this week on whether a 17-year-old defendant, accused of attempting to hijack an off-duty police officer’s car in Homewood this month, remains in custody or is released so that he can attend high school.

Community backs Chronicle in first fundraiser

The Chronicle started its fundraising campaign over the weekend. It took only 24 hours for the Homewood-Flossmoor Chronicle to raise more than half the money it will need for a print edition and other projects.

Two H-F students named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists

Homewood-Flossmoor High School seniors Margaret Colton and Heather Culbertson have been named semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. They are in the running for a share of the $32 million in scholarship money National Merit Scholarship Corporation will award in spring 2016.

Rabid bat discovered near Douglas Avenue in Flossmoor

A rabid bat was discovered Wednesday in the vicinity of the 1400 block of Douglas Avenue in Flossmoor. According to the Cook County Department of Animal and Rabies Control, the bat was submitted for rabies examination and determined to be rabid by the Illinois State Public Health Laboratory. The department advises anyone who has been exposed to or bitten by a bat to contact their doctor. 

H-F League of Women Voters participate in Sept. 22 national voter registration drive

Being a registered voter guarantees your right to vote. That’s why the League of Women Voters is conducting a national voter registration drive on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Locally, members of the League of Women Voters of the Homewood-Flossmoor Area will help residents get registered or update their registrations from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway.

As one-side parking change looms, Flossmoor steps up information efforts

With two weeks to go before new Flossmoor parking regulations go into effect, village officials are stepping up efforts to inform citizens about the changes, including a parking ban on the hydrant side of most neighborhood streets.
