H-F Park District makes effort to keep programs, services despite revenue drop

Parking changes include one-side-only restriction, Parker drop-off lane

Flossmoor Village Board members Monday unanimously approved two changes in parking regulations. One affects nearly the entire village while the other is designed to alleviate morning traffic congestion at Parker Junior High School.

First phase of Homewood science center development finished, trustees vote to start next phase

Homewood trustees voted 5 to 1 on Tuesday, July 28, to keep the community science center project moving forward. The first phase, a conceptual plan, was presented to the board by project leader Rachael Jones and two members of the local advisory board, Betsy Soehren-Jones and Irv Anderson. 

Proposed parking restriction targets morning congestion at Parker

To alleviate congestion in front of Parker Junior High School, parking would be restricted during a one-hour morning student drop-off period under a plan proposed by the Flossmoor Police Department.

Tempting treats tell story tales at Homewood Public Library

At the Homewood Public Library Wednesday evening, a dozen young bakers came with their cakes decorated and themed to a book. There was a boxcar based on the Box Car Kids series, a mouse from the book “Give A Mouse a Cookie,” and the golden snitch from Harry Potter, to name a few.

Irwin fountain damaged by waders

The fountain on the northwest corner of Irwin Park may look inviting on a hot summer day, but residents should resist the tempation, according to Homewood-Flossmoor Park District officials. The fountain had to be repaired this week after apparently being damaged by waders. [Updated with information about swimming/wading opportunities in Homewood.]

Memories of Homewood’s history kept current by historical society

The small brick house on the corner of the 183rd Street and Gottschalk Avenue was almost lost to bulldozers in the 1980s but now serves to keep Homewood history preserved and serves as a resource for the community.

Flossmoor woman seeks community support after daughter's death

A Flossmoor woman is seeking community support after the sudden death of her daughter early Monday, July 20.

Elizabeth Gerald is hoping to raise money for funeral and burial expenses. A page has been set up to accept donations.
