District 153 students to learn the value of sharing, volunteerism on Tom Brabec Day Monday

Students in Homewood District 153 will be volunteering to help the homeless and children in hospitals on Monday, Dec. 7, the first Tom Brabec Day in Homewood schools.

When Tom Brabec retired from the Homewood District 153 School Board in May after 18 years of service, the board decided it would dedicate a day of service involving students at each of its schools. Brabec Day is meant to reflect on the many ways he shares his time and talent with the community.

The Cancer Support Center raises $41,000 on Giving Tuesday

The Cancer Support Center raised over $41,000 in online donations on Dec. 1 during the Giving Tuesday fundraiser. The Coleman Foundation matched $15,000. The funds raised will benefit those living with cancer and their families.

Print proves to be a hit for H-F Chronicle

The first print edition of the H-F Chronicle is proving to be a big hit among Homewood and Flossmoor residents happy to have a local newspaper they can hold in their hands.

Auction to help H-F singers share their talents with Europe

The 55 members of the H-F Master Singers are holding an auction on Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. to raise money for their singing tour in Budapest, Vienna and Prague. With a theme of “Passport to Prague and Beyond,” the room will be transformed into a European adventure with steamer trunks, passports and old cameras. Kim O’Lone, publicity chair, promises “it will be fabulous.”

Modeling agency and school of etiquette to open in Homewood

Flossmoor’s Winterfest – Santa, holiday fun and now a photo booth

This year’s edition of Flossmoor’s Winterfest, on Dec. 5, starts with stories at 2 p.m. and ends with the 5 p.m. tree lighting. The family-oriented event at the Flossmoor Public Library features lots of holiday games and activities.

It’s not too early to get involved, state representative tells students

State Rep. Will Davis touched upon a number of topics during a visit Monday to Parker Junior High School in Flossmoor, including how bills are passed, how young people can get involved in state or local government and whether state legislators can do anything to improve food in the school cafeteria.
