Drop in assessed valuation throws shadow over District 161 tax levy approval

Faced with falling property values, Flossmoor School District 161 Board of Education members created some financial wiggle room Monday by approving a $25.2 million tax levy that is likely to be cut by Cook County officials.

District 161 Business Manager Frances LaBella said she expects the county to reduce the school system’s final levy amount to about $21.9 million. District officials believe that amount should cover local education needs during the next fiscal year.

Homewood School District 153 meeting financial obligations with $16.2 million levy

The Homewood District 153 school board approved a $16.2 million tax levy Monday, Dec. 8, that is expected to bring in an additional $428,000.

The Rev. James M. Sayers, who served as pastor of the Parish of St. Joseph in downtown Homewood, has died in Naples, Fla. He was 82.

Flossmoor had its open mic night at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5th at the Flossmoor Community Church. 

On the agenda: Homewood trustees to consider final Martin Avenue streetscape plan, honor H-F football team

Two development projects will be on the Homewood Board of Trustees' agenda Tuesday, Dec. 9, and the village will honor Homewood-Flossmoor High School's football team for its successful season.

The meeting will take place in the board room of Village Hall, 2020 Chestnut Road. 

The Vikings made it to the Class 8A state championship, where they lost a close game Saturday, Nov. 29, to undefeated Stevenson.

Flossmoor Public Library hosts Winterfest

Flossmoor Public Library held its winter festival on Saturday, Dec. 5th, with the lighting of the Christmas Tree. Prior to that, the library held a children's holiday party, including storytime, balloon art, caricatures, face painting, and hot chocolate.
