Flossmoor’s Jay Readey named Presidential Leadership Scholar

Beginning Feb. 24, Flossmoor attorney Jay Readey will be one of 60 persons from across the country participating in the Presidential Leadership Scholars program.

Flossmoor crews fought snow for nearly 44 straight hours

In Flossmoor, public works crews started fighting the storm at 11 p.m. Saturday. They didn’t stop for two days. After nearly 44 hours of non-stop snow removal, they shut their trucks down at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

Snowpeople

When conditions are just right — cold but not too cold, with just enough moisture — the snowpeople come out to play. 

The creatures proliferated in the area Sunday and Monday after Sunday's foot and a half of snow created excellent snowperson-making conditions. And in one Homewood neighborhood, they even competed for the honor of being named the Best Snowperson.

Nona Ridel, of the 18500 block of Page Avenue, said on Monday when she and her family finished shoveling, they decided to make a snowman. They ended up making a snow couple. 

Day’s delay for garbage pick-up

Homewood Disposal is reminding residents of Homewood and Flossmoor that garbage pick-up will be late this week.

After snow and wind all day Sunday, Monday dawned bright, making the digging out process a bit more pleasant and creating a delightful winter landscape.

Local schools will be closed Monday

Local schools have canceled classes for Monday, Feb. 2, due to the severe weather conditions.

Administrators for Homewood School District 153, Flossmoor District 161, St. Joseph School in Homewood and Infant Jesus of Prague School in Flossmoor made the decision earlier today to close schools.
