H-F students performing ‘Almost, Maine’ this weekend

“Almost, Maine” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s Mall Auditorium.

Chocolate heaven

Pattie Tydd, representing Homewood Women's Club, took top honors in the amateur division of the Homewood Chocolate Festival Saturday, Feb. 21, with a chocolate tart entry.

Second place went to Stephanie Ferkula, representing Homewood Public Library, and third place to Elaine Egdorf of Homewood Heritage Commission.

White Castle was named the Master Chef of the professional competition with a cheese cake entry.

Parker Junior High School students may be taking pitches on the ball diamond in a competitive league this fall as part of a sports expansion in Flossmoor District 161.

Homewood Winter Farmers Market moves to make room

After one session, the new Homewood Winter Farmers Market has already outgrown its home. The second winter market — from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 28 — will take place at St. Joseph School.

Recent charges: weapons violation, drug possession, identity theft

Police find loaded handgun during Halsted traffic stop
A Des Moines, Iowa, man was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after a loaded handgun was found in his vehicle during a traffic stop in Homewood just before midnight Friday, Feb. 20.

According to a Homewood police report, Michael Daniel, 22, of the 3000 block of Indianola Ave., was stopped in the 18200 block of Halsted Street for driving a vehicle with expired registration. 

Local students named to PSC Dean’s List

Prairie State College (PSC) recognizes the academic accomplishments of students each year by awarding them a place on the Dean’s List. Several students from Homewood and Flossmoor were included in the most recent honor.
