Advocate South Suburban Hospital has been recognized by for its efforts to improve the health of babies born at the Hazel Crest hospital by eliminating early elective baby deliveries and elective cesarean sections,according to a news release from the hospital.

The Homewood Veterans Committee is hosting its annual Veterans Day Breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Grady's Grille, 18147 Harwood Ave.

Homewood police alert residents to rise in ruse burglaries in the area

The Homewood Police Department sent out an email notice Wednesday, Nov. 5, advising residents to be aware of a continuing problem with ruse burglaries in the Chicagoland area.

In a ruse burglary, perpetrators use false identities and information to gain access to victim's residences. Senior citizens are commonly targeted with this approach, according to police.

Burglars may pose as new neighbors, utility workers, a village employee, or a construction worker, for example.

Homewood man dies from injuries suffered in Oct. 28 traffic accident

An 83-year-old Homewood man died early Wednesday, Oct. 29, from head injuries suffered in a traffic accident Tuesday evening, Oct. 28.

Joseph E. Coghlan was pronounced dead at 5:13 a.m. Wednesday, according to a Cook County Medical Examiners Office spokeman.

Coghlan was walking across Gottschalk Street shortly before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when he was struck by a 2013 Kia driven by Fred Gold, 95, of Homewood, according to Homewood police.

Veterans Day Celebration, Luncheon Hosted by H-F Park District

The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District is marking Veterans Day with its own special celebration on Monday, Nov. 10, that is open to all veterans, active adults and seniors.

Registrations are being accepted until noon Thursday, Nov. 6, for this program at the Irwin Community Center, Ridge Road and Highland Avenue in Homewood.

Zombies everywhere

Zombies were everywhere in Apollo Park Saturday, Nov. 1, behind trees, around corners, standing right out in the open, even, waiting to pounce on runners participating the the second annual Zombie Fun Run, a benefit for the H-F Orchestra's spring trip to Spain.
