McAtee accepts Millennium principal’s post

District 153 looked within its administrative staff for the next principal of Homewood’s Millennium School naming Dave McAtee to the position as of July 1, 2015.

Millennium Principal Shirley Watkins will be retiring from the district at the end of the school year.

“We have such a great school,” McAtee said. “I’m excited to be taking on this role.”

Flossmoor to replace problem-ridden ambulance

Flossmoor is saying goodbye to a troublesome ambulance and kicking the tires on a new emergency vehicle for the village fire department.

The Village Board Monday approved the purchase of a 2015 Osage ambulance for $265,426. The new ambulance, built on a Dodge chassis, will replace a Wheeled Coach unit purchased in 2005.

Patriot Park Little Free Library vandalized again

The Little Free Library in Homewood's Patriot Park was vandalized for the second time in a little more than than a month, according to Homewood Library Director Amy Crump.

H-F on par in latest school assessment


While the 2014 School Report Card shows Homewood-Flossmoor High School on par with schools across the state, the state-mandated data doesn’t tell the full story of what goes on at H-F, says Jodi Bryant, Director of Human Resources and Public Relations. 

Faculty and administrators typically use numerous indicators over four years for a more complete picture of the abilities of H-F students.

Gypsy jazz concert kicks off new music series at Ravisloe

The weather has turned prematurely cold, but the music in Homewood this week will be hot. 

LePercolateur will bring to Homewood a performance of the music made famous in the 1930s at the Hot Club de France, gypsy jazz.

Public Works Department shines at Homewood board meeting

The Homewood Public Works Department was the star of the Tuesday, Nov. 11, Board of Trustees meeting, with a staff member honored for service to the village and kudos from the board for keeping costs low on two big projects.

Flossmoor police seek information about manhole cover thefts

The Flossmoor Police Department is investigating the theft of several manhole covers, according to an email alert from the department.

During the overnight hours Monday, Nov. 10, someone removed manhole covers from several locations around the village.

Similar incidents occurred in nearby communities the same evening, police said.

Police ask any one who witnesses suspicious behavior or non-public works personnel removing manhole covers to dial 911 immediately.
