Gypsy jazz concert kicks off new music series at Ravisloe

November 12, 2014 - 14:08

The weather has turned prematurely cold, but the music in Homewood this week will be hot.

LePercolateur will bring to Homewood a performance of the music made famous in the 1930s at the Hot Club de France, gypsy jazz.

The concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at Ravisloe Country Club is the first in a series of Thursday Thaw shows intended to "warm the soul and spirit," thoughout the winter months and beyond, according to a post on the Chicago Jazz Magazine website.

The French gypsy jazz ensemble is led by composer/bassist Stacy McMichael and features vocalist Candace Washburn, Marielle de Rocca-Serra on violin, and Jason Miller and Chris Seibold on guitars.

LePercolateur takes concert-goers "to a time where music was a liberating and cathartic respite from persecution."

The group has performed as part of the Jazz Institute of Chicago's 2011 and 2012 Jazz Tours, at Andy's Jazz Club, Hard Rock Cafe Chicago, 2013 All Souls Jazz Festival, City Winery, the Mayne Stage, Jazz Showcase, Martyrs, Schubas, the 2012 Deer Park Jazz Festival, the 2010 and 2011 Chicago Cultural Center's "Music Without Borders" series.

The Robin Watson Combo includes David Turner on piano, Rolfe Hokanson on bass and drummer George Aparo.

Holiday Jazz Duets
Next will be a Wednesday evening show, Dec. 10: Holiday Jazz Duets with Linda Solotaire and  Saalik, featuring Leandro Lopez-Varady on Piano.
