Police find loaded handgun during Halsted traffic stop
A Des Moines, Iowa, man was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after a loaded handgun was found in his vehicle during a traffic stop in Homewood just before midnight Friday, Feb. 20.

According to a Homewood police report, Michael Daniel, 22, of the 3000 block of Indianola Ave., was stopped in the 18200 block of Halsted Street for driving a vehicle with expired registration. 

While conducting a property inventory of the vehicle, police allegedly found a .38 caliber handgun loaded with five rounds of ammunition, according to the report.

In addition to the weapons charge and driving with an expired registration, Daniel was charged with driving with a suspended license. 

Drug, theft arrest
A search warrant was executed by Homewood police officers and the South Suburban Emergency Response Team early Sunday, Feb. 22, in the 1100 block of Elder Road in Homewood.

A resident, Lawrence Schumal, 50 was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and theft, according to a police report.

Identity theft
A Harvey man was charged with identity theft after he allegedly tried to use a fake credit/debit card at a Homewood bank, according to police.

Doronte Cooper, 27, of the 100 block of West 157th Place, was taken into custody after the incident was reported shortly before 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20.
