Chronicle gets in on the fun by sponsoring four events

After two years of reporting on the community, the Homewood-Flossmoor Chronicle is becoming an active participant in local events.

On Sept. 10, the paper will sponsor Flossmoor Fest and also a new golf-and-craft-beer event, Fore and Pour, hosted by the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District.

On Oct. 1, the Chronicle will sponsor Spell Check, an adult spelling bee fundraiser hosted by the Homewood Public Library. The paper also will sponsor the Cancer Support Center’s Walk of Hope fundraiser on Oct. 2.

By supporting a range of organizations, the paper is launching into a new phase and expanding its role in the community, said Public Outreach Manager Patty Houlihan.

“It’s important that the Chronicle is stepping into this sponsorship role and helping host the kind of gatherings that people in Homewood and Flossmoor love,” she said.

At Flossmoor Fest and the Walk of Hope, the paper will provide a poster-size front page “selfie frame” where participants can take photos they can upload to social media.

At the golf and beer-tasting event, the Chronicle is sponsoring a “closest to the hole” contest. The winner will receive a free half-page ad in a future print edition.

And at Spell Check, the paper is providing one-year subscriptions to the print issue for contestants who come in second place. First place winners will receive a trophy from the library.

“Sponsoring these events is great because it enables us to join all the others who support the community,” Houlihan said. “We’re here to report the news. We’re also here to help.”
