Cost for Lions Club Pool work comes in under budget

The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District came up with a way to save nearly $100,000 in its budget and still get the Lions Club pool in great shape for next season.

To the pleasant surprise of park district commissioners at their Tuesday, Nov. 15, meeting, a bid for replacing the pool’s filtration system came in way below cost estimates.

Doug Boehm, superintendent of parks and planning, said he was accepting a recommendation from Innovative Aquatic Design that will leave in place existing 12- and 18-inch pipes that were originally on the replacement order. He said the pipes have been replaced several times over the years.

Doing that cut the estimated costs almost in half from $185,500 to a final cost of $84,577.23 from Aqua Pure Enterprises of Romeoville, Boehm reported.

The board also will pay a $5,500 fee to Innovative Aquatic Design for the project specifications and drawings.

Boehm said the park district will have a 10-year warranty on structural damage and a one-year operational warranty on the filtration system. The park district will only operate the pool after it has met a state inspection following the work, he added.

When the board prepared its current budget, it eliminated a number of projects, including playground renovations and updates at Wiley’s Grill, so that it could find the $185,500 cost for the pool repair. There was no word on how the park district will use the new-found monies.
