Man eluding police causes power outage Thursday in Homewood

A Richton Park man’s attempt to elude Olympia Fields police ended in Homewood on Thursday morning with a traffic accident that resulted in a power outage.

Charles White, 59, was allegedly involved in an altercation with an Olympia Fields police officer and was attempting to elude arrest, according to Olympia Fields police. 

White was charged by Olympia Fields police with aggravated fleeing and eluding, aggravated battery to a police officer and a number of traffic offenses, police said. No weapons were involved in the incident.
The officer and White were each treated for injuries. 

White’s vehicle struck a traffic control pole and a utility pole shortly after 7:20 a.m. at 183rd Street and Western Avenue, according to Homewood police.

A ComEd official said the outage affected more than 300 customers in the area. Power was restored shortly before 8:30 a.m.
