Numerous items stolen while Flossmoor family is out of town

Flossmoor residents returning home following a vacation at the end of 2016 discovered thieves had stolen a number of valuables, including watches, musical instruments, a drone and a handgun.

The homeowners reported the thefts to their residence, located in the 1600 block of Brassie Avenue, in the early morning hours of Dec. 31, according to a Flossmoor police report. They had just returned from an eight-day vacation and called police at 1:36 a.m.

One of the residents said thieves “had been all through the house and everything is gone,” police said.

Stolen items included nine watches, each with a $1,000 value, a pair of rings and two guitars, a Gibson Les Paul model and a Fender Stratocaster. A safe was stolen. A remote control car and drone, both with an $800 value, were also taken.

The handgun, a 9 mm Glock, was taken from a closet, the police report states. The gun was not loaded and there was no ammunition in the house, the homeowners told police.

Computers, televisions and other electronic devices were not taken, police said.

Police said there were signs of a forced entry through a garage door. There was damage to the door frame, the report states. Police found a footprint where the door was apparently kicked in.

Other people had access to the house while the homeowners were out of town, police said. Neighbors came into the house to feed the family pets and a housekeeper made periodic visits; the last was on Dec. 30. Also, a tradesman was at the house during the day working on a flooring project, police said.
