Holocaust survivor Marion Blumenthal Lazan will give a free presentation at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at James Hart School in Homewood.

Community members are invited to hear her compelling story of living through the throes of Nazism.

During Hitler’s rise to power, Lazan and her family were trapped in their town in Germany. They managed to make it to Holland, but soon after, it was occupied by the Nazis. For the next six years, the Jewish family was forced to live in refugee and concentration camps, including the notorious Bergen-Belsen.

The family was rescued by Russian troops who had invaded Germany as World War II neared its end.

Today, Blumenthal Lazan shares this story in her book “Four Perfect Pebbles,” co-authored with Lila Perl. The story chronicle’s her family’s horrific struggles in Europe and their eventual new life in America.

Blumenthal Lazan speaks to groups around the world. She addressed students at James Hart School in Homewood in 2016, and will again speak to Hart students on Dec. 6. They are reading her book as part of their “one book, one school” program.

“Marion is uniquely qualified to talk about the importance of love, courage and appreciation of diversity. During times such as these, her message is more important than ever to hear and reflect upon,” said Shelly Marks, president of the District 153 school board.

The event is made possible through the support of Ilene and Gary Banach, Amy and Eric Crump, Lynn and Barry Gaby, Betti and Neal Goldberg, the Heiferman Family, Homewood PTA, Homewood Rotary Foundation, Marty and Jamie Joffe, Diane and Paul Kessler, Kirschner Vision Group, Latman Insurance Group, Shelly and Steve Marks, the National Council of Jewish Women Iris Dreyfus Fund and other anonymous donors.

Guests are asked to enter the Hart School building using the H-F Sports Complex doors at 18211 Aberdeen St. adjacent to the parking lot.
