Advocates for local businesses will have a chance to show their appreciation Saturday, Nov. 25, by starting their holiday shopping during Small Business Saturday.

Members of Flossmoor Business Association (FBA) and Homewood Business Association (HBA) will offer shopping specials and fun activities to help celebrate the thriving small businesses in the two villages.

“American Express launched Small Business Saturday in 2010 hoping to draw more holiday shopping to small businesses,” said Julie Lawton, director of HBA and co-owner of UpsaDaisy Boutique at 18100 Martin Ave. “Small Business Saturday is a national campaign that urges consumers to ‘Think Local and Shop Small’  in order to keep our community and businesses thriving.”

In Flossmoor, Coldwell Banker will host a pop-up shop. The event will include shopping opportunities  with a variety of vendors and local merchants. There will be wine tasting, appetizers and craft cocktails. Admission is free.

The event will benefit the Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Charitable Foundation.

Doyle Designed salon at 2630 Flossmoor Road will be hosting a bead party from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., an opportunity to have local jewelry designer Zach Larks create something unique for shoppers.

There will be champagne and wine along with some light snacks and desserts, too.

Other Flossmoor stores offering specials include Kluger Furs, Flossmoor Family Automotive, Maxine’s Apparel, The Villager Gift Shop, Custom Housekeeping Services, American Eye Care Center, Subway, Wiley’s Grill, Village Cleaners, State Farm Insurance, BMO Harris Bank, Marc Alan Salon and the Insurance Professionals.

In Homewood, Divine Sole Boutique at 18109 Dixie Highway, will host a Small Biz Saturday Party. Patrons are invited to come mix and mingle and enjoy cocktails, giveaways and music.

Loulou Belle Boutique at 2049 Ridge Road is extending its hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Anyone who makes a purchase from 8 to 10 a.m. can enjoy a free small batch brew coffee from nearby Redbird Cafe.

The village of Homewood is contributing to the event with the unveiling of the eye-catching and interactive “I Spy” windows.

Several examples of “I Spy” windows can be seen in the 2000 block of Ridge Road in Homewood. Paper covers the windows, but painted messages give teasers.

For example, one message says, “I spy with my little eye, a Homewood holiday mug, happy camper, arrow, and a house.”

The paper will come down Saturday to reveal what’s inside.
