Local residents and business professionals can get to know each other better at next Tuesday’s Homewood Area Chamber of Commerce Business Expo.

The first-time event is taking place from 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Clubhouse at Dolphin Lake, 2700 183rd St. in Homewood. It is free and open to the public. The event will also include a Business After Hours session between 5 and 7 p.m.

Chamber President Jen Sjoblom said the organization is designed to promote local businesses and other chamber members to the community.

“It is said that people do business with people they know, like and trust,” Sjoblom said. “By bringing the residents of our communities together with our local businesses we hope to help create the type of relationships that will turn into longtime partnerships.”

Local residents have many options when looking for goods and services in the Homewood-Flossmoor area, she said, adding that it’s important to support local businesses “and keep tax dollars local for the overall betterment of our communities.”

Businesses and other chamber members attending the expo include Aurelio’s Pizza, Abbott’s Printing, Village of Glenwood, Glenwoodie Golf Club, TBEggert Insurance, UChicago Medicine–Ingalls Memorial, Name on Anything, Baird & Warner Real Estate, TGS Video, Homewood-Flossmoor Park District, Prairie State College and Idlewild Country Club.

The Business After Hours session is also open to the public and vendors. Pizza from Aurelio’s will be served at this part of the event, Sjoblom said.

“This provides an opportunity for the business community and residents to network and connect in a fun and relaxing atmosphere,” she said. “And of course, at every expo there is always some sort of raffle and giveaway item.”

It’s the first time the Homewood Area Chamber has held such an event. Sjoblom said the organization hopes to expand it in future years. The chamber covers Homewood, Flossmoor and Glenwood.
