Flossmoor Fest returns Sept. 9 with a full day of activities for all ages.

New to this year’s village festival are a video game truck and a beer/cocktail tent close to the main stage. A movie, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” will be shown at dusk.

And, “Wipeout,” an exciting new interactive game of endurance for young people, also has  been added. It is sponsored by Leland Grove Law.

Flossmoor Fest will take over the village’s downtown area and Flossmoor Park between 11:30 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Opening ceremonies with Mayor Paul Braun and village trustees take place at 11:30 a.m. The Homewood-Flossmoor High School Viking Band will perform and will be followed throughout the day by choirs from local schools.

Free children’s activities will be available at Flossmoor Park between noon and 5 p.m., including annual favorites like the kiddie train, balloon animals, fair and pony rides and bounce houses. The video game truck will be at Flossmoor Fest from 3 to 8 p.m.

Food and drink booths will again be on the south end of the fest on Sterling Avenue near Flossmoor Road. Three establishments — Wiley’s Grill, The Bistro on Sterling and Flossmoor Station — will  be selling drinks in the beer/cocktail tent all day; it will be located along Central Drive south of the post office.

Warming up the main stage are The McDowell Brothers. The Homewood sensations are teen blues musicians who recently won Most Talented Teens at the 2017 Chicago Music Awards. They’re followed by local favorites The Walk-Ins and new addition Second Hand Soul Band, who headline with their soul and Motown infused sound.

Flossmoor’s Community Relations Commission is overseeing this year’s fest.

Major sponsors are Meijer, Leland Grove Law, Ingalls and BMO Harris Bank.

Other significant sponsorships are from Southland Smiles, Drew Mormann State Farm Agency, Aurelia Nicholson family, Christopher Burke Engineering, Flossmoor Family Auto Repair, Inc., The Bistro On Sterling, Commonwealth Edison, Friends for State Representative Anthony DeLuca and The Center for Dental Excellence LLC.
