Gallagher Asphalt to receive Big Shoes Award

Gallagher Asphalt will be honored June 28 with the Big Shoes Award at the Chicago Southland Economic Development Corporation’s annual program honoring outstanding business leaders in the manufacturing community.

The award, designed to recognize the world-class companies located in the South Suburbs area and honor their commitment to improving the quality of life in the area.  Charlie Gallagher, president of Gallagher Asphalt, will accept the award.

Gallagher Asphalt, headquartered in Thornton, has been a family owned business since its founding 90 years ago.

“The firm has paved or resurfaced hundreds of thousands of miles, under some of the most demanding conditions,” said Reggie Greenwood, director of CSEDC.

The company also has been the sponsor of the Marian Catholic High School’s participation in the Southworks Engineering and Robotics Olympics.

“It is imperative that we attract young people who are excited about applying advanced technology to manufacturing products,” Gallagher said. “Also, I’m always impressed by the caliber of the students involved. It makes me optimistic for our future.”
