Science center, economic development measures on Homewood trustees’ agenda

Homewood Science Center Executive Director Edie Dobrez is expected to present the center’s annual report in a presentation to village trustees at the regular board meeting Tuesday, Aug. 14.

HSC is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, but it was developed over the past three years by the village of Homewood and continues to operate in partnership with the village.
Trustees will also consider a $78,000 bid for HSC window replacement.

In other business, the board will consider three measures related to economic development.

One is an ordinance that would approve the final plat for the development of two restaurants, Panera and Chick-fil-A, on the northwest corner of Halsted and 175th streets. The final plat includes a variance on the minimum lot size.

The board will also consider establishing a small tax-increment financing district on Dixie Highway to aid in the redevelopment of the former Bogarts Charhouse site.

Apex Properties Investments is requesting the village’s support for a Class 8 property tax incentive to help it make improvements to the building at 3003-3029 183rd St.

In other business, the board will:

Receive annual reports from the Community Relations Committee and the Economic Development Committee.
Witness the oath of office taken by new police officer Jason Johnson.
Consider awarding a contract for the construction of the new public works utility storage building at $119,750.

The board meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road.
