The national submarine sandwich chain will be opening a shop adjacent to the Meijer superstore, village officials said Wednesday.

Village Manager Bridget Wachtel said Glazier Corporation has signed Jersey Mike’s for an interior space in the outlot where Starbucks and AT&T are located. Glazier developed those two businesses.

The shop will be located in the 3800 block of Vollmer Road.

“We are very excited and pleased to welcome Jersey Mike’s Subs to Flossmoor’s family of terrific local businesses,” said Flossmoor Mayor Paul Braun. “Jersey Mike’s serves submarine sandwiches made to order slicing the meats and cheeses as needed and will bring its unique food items to Flossmoor in January or early February.”

According to its website, Jersey Mike’s has more than 1,500 locations across the nation that are either open or in development. Its menu includes 14 “Northeast style” cold subs, 12 hot subs or cheese steaks and five wraps.

The chain prides itself on slicing meat and preparing all food fresh in front of the customer.

The company first started operations in 1957, serving customers in an oceanside town in New Jersey.  Jersey Mike’s started franchising other locations in 1987.

Jersey Mike’s is also committed to helping local charities, the website says. During March, customers are encouraged to donate to a local charity. The last Wednesday of the month is a dedicated “day of giving” in which 100 percent of the day’s sales are donated to a partner charity.
