2 men face attempted armed robbery charges after April 20 incident

Two Park Forest residents have been accused of attempted armed robbery after allegedly threatening two people in Homewood on April 20. 

Mark Blankenberger, 34, of Cherry Street, and Jaryl Johnson, 29, of the 3200 block of Western Avenue, each have been charged with two counts of attempted armed robbery, according to the Cook County Circuit Court clerk.

The two were armed with knives as they approached two people shortly before midnight in the 18200 block of Harwood Avenue, according to police. They allegedly made threatening statements and demanded the victims empty their pockets.

The two suspects left the area without completing the robbery. No information is available on what disrupted the attempt.

Blankenberger and Johnson were located a short time later and were taken into custody. The victims were not injured, police said.

Judge Mary Marubio ordered Blankenberger and Johnson each be held on $25,000 detainer bonds.

Johnson is scheduled to appear in court on May 16, according to court officials. 
Blankenberger is scheduled to appear in court on May 23.
