H-F teen arrested after bringing bullets to school

Flossmoor police arrested a Homewood-Flossmoor High School student when it was discovered he brought loose bullets into the school Monday, Nov. 12.

School officials notified police mid-morning that there was a suspicion that a student may have bullets. The student was identified, searched and the bullets were located, according to information provided to H-F parents.

“With the parents’ cooperation, the police conducted a search of the student’s home and no weapon was found; in addition, the parent stated that their child does not have access to any weapons,” the letter to parents said.

The district “will be seeking swift and appropriate disciplinary action,” according to Superintendent Von Mansfield.

“Events like this are very unsettling for students, parents, staff and the larger community,” Mansfield’s letter stated. “Please know that the safety of our students and staff is our number one priority, and we will continue to work diligently to ensure a safe and secure learning environment. It takes all of us to ensure a safe environment.”

The superintendent urged parents to remind students that actions and social media posts “can have far-reaching consequences for everyone.”
