Homewood Village Manager Jim Marino confirmed Tuesday, Oct. 30, that Vice District Brewing at 18027 Dixie Highway was closed for failure to correct code violations.

Marino said the business was given a conditional 30-day occupancy permit when it opened on Aug. 31. Village inspectors found plumbing and fire suppression code violations. Those corrections were not made, Marino said.

The code enforcement is the latest in a series of issues for the craft brewer going back over two years.

The board approved $100,000 in non-TIF business incentive funds for Vice District in September 2016. The funding was meant to help the brewery with construction costs. The agreement carried a stipulation that work would be completed within six months.

The village granted a 12-month extension in March 2017 and another for six additional months in June 2018. Vice District owner Curtis Tarver told The Chronicle that construction was delayed because of permitting issues with the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Thorn Creek Basin Sanitary District related to the building’s water service.

Interior construction was complete almost a year before the business opened.

Tarver declined to comment.
