H-F High School offers counseling services after student’s death

Homewood-Flossmoor High School is taking steps to help students who might be emotionally distraught over the death Saturday of a student.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office identified the student as Romane D. Taylor Jr., 17, of Chicago Heights. He died Saturday night as a result of injuries suffered in a shooting that afternoon.

H-F Superintendent Von Mansfield and Principal Jerry Lee Anderson sent an announcement Monday to parents and guardians of students to remind them of counseling services the school offers.

“It is possible that your child may display some signs of grief or trauma at home,” the announcement states. “We encourage you to talk with your child to help during this trying period.”

They provided a list of school counselors and their contact information and said the school would provide services as long as students or family members need them.

Homewood police are still investigating the incident and have not provided details about the circumstances. Officers responded to the 19100 block of Loomis Avenue at 1:42 p.m. Saturday and found Taylor with gunshot injuries.

Anyone with information about the incident should call police at 708-206-3420.
