Driver killed following early morning Flossmoor Road crash

A Flossmoor man was killed after his car crashed into a utility box and tree in the early morning hours on Aug. 18. The accident took place at 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the 2100 block of Flossmoor Road, according to a police report.

Alonte Sledge, 23, was driving eastbound on Flossmoor Road when the vehicle crossed the center line and drifted toward the north side of the street. The car jumped over a curb, then hit an AT&T utility box and a tree before coming to rest.
 
Acting Chief Tod Kamleiter said Flossmoor police and fire units responded to the accident and attempted to give CPR to Sledge but that he was not responsive. He was taken by a Flossmoor ambulance to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead.
 
A male passenger was taken to Advocate Christ by a Homewood ambulance that assisted at the accident scene. No information was available on his condition.
 
Kamleiter said a full investigation into the crash will be conducted by the Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team.
