H-F music grads to perform at free FCC concert Saturday

Two Homewood-Flossmoor High School graduates, both college music students, will perform at a free classical music concert Saturday at Flossmoor-Community Church.
Katelyn Hoag, H-F Class of 2012, and Anya Brumfield, Class of 2016, will perform at the church at 2 p.m. May 18. Flossmoor Community Church is located at 2218 Hutchison Road.
They are members of Bloomington Connect, an ensemble based at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Hoag, a viola player, received a master’s degree from the Jacobs School. Brumfield is an undergraduate violin player.
The ensemble was formed in January 2019 to compete for a grant offered by the Kelly School of Business to develop strategies to bring the university’s arts programs into the community. Bloomington Connect proposed an interactive series of concerts and performances at underprivileged venues including low income schools, nursing homes and local hospitals.
All of Bloomington Connect’s performers are current Jacobs School students. According to US News & World Report rankings, the Jacobs School of Music is a "top performer" worldwide. The Jacobs School ranks seventh among performing arts educational institutions worldwide and second nationally. Other than Julliard, all the other music programs ranked above Jacobs are based in Europe.
Hoag is an original founder of Bloomington Connect.
