TIF to help Bogart’s redevelopment on Homewood board agenda

Homewood trustees will have an opportunity Tuesday to continue the process of creating a small tax increment financing district (TIF) downtown that is expected aid the redevelopment of the former Bogart’s Charhouse site at 18225 Dixie Highway.

The restaurant closed in 2012, and the building has been vacant since then. In 2016, Homewood officials began the process of condemnation, but redevelopment stalled because of complicated ownership and delinquent tax issues.

The TIF designation is expected to make redevelopment of the property viable.

Trustees will consider an ordinance to complete two requirements for establishing the TIF district, convening a joint review board consisting of representatives from affected local taxing bodies and scheduling a public hearing.

In other business, trustees will consider

  • An intergovernmental agreement with Cook County to enable the village to be reimbursed for repairing a county-owned storm sewer on Ashland Avenue.
  • Hire Stanard & Associates Inc. for police and fire entry-level testing services.
The board will meet at 7 p.m. in village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road.
