Crystal Lesimple and her son began volunteering with SHHS five or six years ago and she estimated that their family of four has fostered about 20 kittens or cats over the years.

They had been fostering a cat that was a recent mother and decided to also take in a litter of six cats without a mother. The cat that had been named “Donut” became known simply as Mama as she took on that role for the new babies. After all the kittens had been adopted, they decided to make Mama a permanent part of their family and adopted her.

Mama joined one other pet in the family, a cat named Reglisse (which means licorice in French) who was adopted with her brother from the SSHS nearly 20 years ago.

“She’s still acclimating, but it’s going better than we expected,” said Lesimple. “Everyone should be happy within a few days.”
