Homewood Library features theatre troupe Oct. 5

A children’s play with a message about bullying will be presented by a professional theatre company during an Oct. 5 visit at the Homewood Public Library.

“Little Red and the Big Bully Wolf” will be presented at 2 p.m. in the public meeting room of the library, 17919 Dixie Highway.

Members of the Bright Star Touring Theatre of Asheville, North Carolina, will be performing the story based on the classic fairytale of Little Red Riding Hood.

In this version, Little Red embarks on a visit to Grandmother’s house. Her trip is fraught with trouble from the Big Bully Wolf, who is a menace to everyone he encounters. But then, Little Red teaches him that no one likes a bully.

This 45-minute program is meant for children pre-kindergarten to third grade, but it can be enjoyed by the entire family. Because of the anticipated demand for this performance, attendees age one and up need to register with the library staff to receive a ticket for the free performance.

Each year, Bright Star Touring Theatre serves nearly 2,000 audiences in schools, theaters, libraries, museums and more across the country. Kelly Campos, one of the youth librarians at the Homewood Library, was excited to get on their schedule.

“They tour all over the world with a huge variety of shows, and I have been watching them for awhile, so when the opportunity came up to get them to the Homewood Public Library, I jumped,” she said.
