COVID-19 testing has come to the South Suburbs. A drive-thru testing site opened Tuesday morning in Markham at the state’s auto emissions testing site, 3824 W. 159th St.
Tests are free and priority is given to first responders, heath care workers, at risk populations including people 65 and older, and anyone 18 and older showing symptoms. Symptoms include those commonly associated with COVID-19: shortness of breath, fever, cough and tiredness.
The site was open to first responders only on Tuesday but will be open to the public on Wednesday, April 15. It will operate from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week, according to the city of Markham.
Anyone wishing to be tested should present a valid driver’s license with updated address and insurance information if available.
Testing is supervised by the Illinois Department of Public Health, and traffic logistics will be handled by Illinois National Guard.
State Rep. Debbie Meyers-Martin (D-Olympia Fields) posted a note to her Facebook page after taking a tour of the facility.
“I am pleased that the South Suburbs now has this most needed testing site, and we continue to request all the necessary resources we need to fight this COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.
