Lyon has been pastor of Flossmoor Community Church for more than nine years. He is moving to North Carolina to be with his wife, Jan Edmiston, who also is a pastor.

Mayor Paul Braun said Lyon’s departure is bittersweet.

“It’s hard to believe that it’s been over nine-and-a-half years that Pastor Lyon has been with us here, but he has done such a wonderful job for our community,” Braun remarked.

Lyon is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Bucknell University and Princeton Theological Seminary and came to Flossmoor Community Church in November 2010. He went on to serve as senior pastor and head of staff.

According to the resolution passed by the board, Lyon has increased the usage of FCC’s facilities by hosting outside programs and events in an attempt to engage with community members.

These events include open mic nights for community artists, politician meet and greets, community forums and FCC Community House fests.

The resolution notes that Lyon’s preaching has promoted social justice, inclusion and spiritual formation.

“We do hereby express to Pastor Fred Lyon our sincere appreciation for the contribution he has made to the community and our gratitude for his commitment and dedication to the Flossmoor Community Church, and wish him well in all his future endeavors,” the resolution states.
