Jersey Mike’s Subs grant helps underwrite wreaths at veteran cemeteries

Jersey Mike’s Subs, a sandwich shop chain with a location in Flossmoor, has made a $300,000 challenge grant to support the mission of Wreaths Across America (WAA) to make sure veterans’ graves are honored with a wreath each year.

Through this donation, Jersey Mike’s is helping WAA reach its goal of placing a live balsam veteran’s wreath on every headstone at Arlington National Cemetery.  Every $15 wreath sponsorship made at www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/JerseyMikes through Monday, Dec. 14, will be considered part of the company’s matching gift.

WAA will also lay wreaths at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood outside of Joliet. Wreaths can be ordered in the name of specific veterans and placed at their graves.

WAA is a nonprofit organization founded in 1992 to honor the thousands of veterans both at Arlington National Cemetery and the military cemeteries in all 50 states.

“The veterans we honor committed themselves unselfishly at the most critical moments in our nation’s history,” said Karen Worcester, WAA’s executive director. “The generous support of the wonderful people at Jersey Mike’s, ensures that we will be able to fulfill our mission in remembrance of these brave men and women.”
