Neil Chance, former Churchill School principal, dies

Neil Chance, who retired as principal from District 153’s Churchill School in Homewood, died Nov. 16 at his home in Salem, Illinois. He was 80.

Mr. Chance was principal at Churchill School from 1971 to 1994. In the 1971-72 school year, the school earned national recognition as a Blue Ribbon School.

According to his obituary, Mr. Chance held several other positions in District 153 before taking the principal’s job. He was instrumental in founding the Illinois Principals Association.  

After he retired from District 153, Mr. Chance was an administrator at schools in Flossmoor, Manteno, Justice and Mount Vernon.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, at Grace United Methodist Church in Salem, Illinois.
