Driver dies after crash in Homewood on Wednesday

A Merrillville teen died Wednesday night after he was involved in a traffic crash on 183rd Street in Homewood.

Dominique Wood, 19, was pronounced dead at 9:22 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The crash occurred at 5:11 p.m. near the intersection of 183rd Street and Center Avenue. Two cars were involved, both coming to rest in the front yard of a residence on the south side of the street, according to Homewood police.

Wood was the driver of a red Buick, which prior to the crash, was stopped at the sign on southbound on Center at 183rd Street. As the Buick proceeded southbound across the westbound lanes of 183rd St, it was struck by a white Porsche that was travelling westbound on 183rd Street.

The driver of the Porsche was treated and released from the hospital.

The Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team (S.M.A.R.T.) is assisting with the investigation.
