Coping with COVID: March 18

The number of cases jumps. Wiley’s Grill finds a home for food. Rabid Brewing comes up with a unique pairing, beer and TP. What should you do if you think you need to be tested for COVID-19?

  • Metra announced on Tuesday that the commuter rail service will continue with its regular weekday schedule at least through Friday and that any switch to an alternate schedule will be announced well in advance.
  • Businesses are getting creative to survive and to serve the community during this crisis. One solution involves toilet paper, the somewhat surprising target of panic shopping in the week since COVID-19 was declared to be a pandemic. We’ll have more info soon on Rabid Brewing’s beer and TP special offer.
  • Part-time employees at Wiley’s Grill at Coyote Run Golf Course were invited to come and empty the cooler between 5 and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17. Director Sherri Klein invited her workers to take perishables that would have spoiled.
  • Homewood provided more details about how to conduct business with the village while village hall is closed. Ready about it here
  • Information hygiene: If you wonder about testing for COVID-19, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has a page that attempts to answer this and other questions about the disease. The short answer, though, is that anyone who suspects they might have COVID-19 should contact their physician, who will advise about whether and how to get tested.
  • IDPH reports today that the number of cases in Illinois has jumped to 288, up from 160 on Tuesday.
