Homewood reaches 160 COVID-19 cases and the village’s rate exceeds 800 per 100,000 people. The state sets a new record for cases in a 24-hour period. Golf resumes Friday after a temporary ban and golfers hit the links.

Golf resumes. After six weeks of shelter-in-place rules designed to combat the spread of COVID-19, an amended executive order went into effect Friday that allowed golfing to resume, although with a number of restrictions intended to encourage social distancing on the links. Golfers made the best of a bright spring day on Friday to give their clubs a workout.

Homewood cases climb again. While Flossmoor remains at 55 confirmed cases of COVID-19, Homewood’s total reached 160 on Friday, with six new cases reported by the Cook County Department of Public Health. Homewood passed the 800 per 100,000 people rate mark, although that remains well behind the worst areas of the South Suburbs. Park Forest continues to have the highest rate in suburban Cook County with 1,725 per 100,000.

New state record for cases but deaths drop. The state surpassed its previous record of new COVID-19 cases in a 24-hour period, 2,724.
