District 161 board seeking new member to replace Michelle Hoereth

Flossmoor School District 161 board President Michelle Hoereth was elected on April 6 to the District 233 Board of Education, and that will leave an open spot on the District 161 board.

Hoereth is expected to submit her resignation from the District 161 board on May 3, The board will have 60 days to appoint her successor, according to a statement from the district on Tuesday.

The board is seeking applicants who are interested in being appointed to serve the final two years of Hoereth’s term, which will expire after the next consolidated general election on April 4, 2023. 

Residents interested in applying for the position should submit a one-page letter of interest, along with a resume. The deadline is 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 30. Submissions can be made by email, regular mail, fax or hand delivery to Misha Blackman, board secretary. Each submission will be acknowledged to verify receipt.

The one-page letter of interest should address the following:

  • Why are you interested in becoming a member of the Board of Education?
  • What could you offer District 161?
  • What prior experience/involvement have you had with the school district?

All applicants must be, on the date of appointment, a United States citizen, at least 18 years old, a registered voter and a resident of Illinois and District 161 for at least one year immediately preceding the appointment. 

The board plans to  interview candidates the week of May 3 and hopes to appoint a new member on May 10, although that that is subject to change.
