Glenwood Academy brings back Queen of Hearts fundraiser at Fifth Quarter in Homewood

Glenwood Academy’s Queen of Hearts fundraiser returns to Fifth Quarter Press Room and Eatery. Ticket sales launched on Wednesday.

The pot will start at $15,000, with the first drawing taking place on Wednesday, May 19, at 7 p.m., continuing each week on the same day and time until the queen is found.

Tickets are $5 for six entries and are sold at Fifth Quarter Press Room, 18105 Dixie Highway in Homewood, during normal business hours — daily, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.

The individual who finds the queen of hearts will be awarded half the pot (excluding taxes), with the other half going to Glenwood Academy. Unlike other Queen of Hearts raffles, weekly payouts also take place each week to the individual whose ticket is drawn:

  • Weekly chosen ticket, $20.
  • Any queen drawn, $100.
  • Any Ace card, $100.
  • Joker cards, $250.

A Queen of Hearts raffle benefiting Glenwood Academy first took place in 2019, with the winning pot topping $55,000. That money was split in half between the winner and Glenwood Academy.

Glenwood Academy is a private residential community for students in grades second through eighth, with a high school option at local partner schools. The school is almost fully funded by fundraising events, such as the Queen of Hearts raffle, as well as donors and sponsors.

Glenwood serves more than 650 students and families from diverse backgrounds, many of whom have experienced violence, poverty and other challenging situations. Nearly all the students live below or at the poverty line.
