Homewood trustees to consider contract for 183rd Street traffic study

Traffic safety on 183rd Street in Homewood has been a high priority for residents and village officials after a fatal accident last summer, and on Tuesday trustees will have an opportunity to take another step toward improving the situation.

On the board’s agenda for its 7 p.m. meeting Tuesday, Feb. 9, is a contract with Burns & McDonnell of Kansas City, Missouri, to perform a traffic study. The contract is for Phase 1 of the project, that will look at traffic from Halsted Street to Dixie Highway, analyze traffic and crash patterns and develop possible solutions to improve safety.

The Burns & McDonnell bid for the study is $136,550.

In other business, the board will consider:

  • The reappointment of Gianni Sansone to the Community Relations Commission.
  • An ordinance to ratify the actions taken by trustees at the Jan. 26 board meeting.
  • A budget amendment for $34,734 and authorization for an agreement with ComEd to participate in the 50/50 cost share Energy Efficiency LED Lighting Project.
  • An amendment to the liquor license code to enable eligible bars and restaurants to offer video gaming.
  • A resolution for partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation in lieu of separate surety bonds for work to be performed on a state highway.
  • A bid for the purchase and installation of one color LED marquee sign, including the removal of existing village hall sign, to Roeda Inc. of Lynwood.
  • The purchase of two Ford F-250 pickup trucks through the Suburban Purchasing Cooperative (SPC) from Currie Motors Commercial Center in Frankfort.

Members of the public may comment on agenda items or other subjects related to village business by email to [email protected] or by placing written comments in the drop box outside village hall. Comments received by 4 p.m. on Tuesday will be read into the record of the meeting.

The meeting will be conducted remotely via Zoom. The public is invited to monitor the session.
